Odissi

Odissi is one of India's oldest dance forms tracing its roots to the 2 nd century BC. Steeped in devotion it has a unique lyrical grace and feminine beauty. Many Odissi poses have been immortalized in stone at various temples and therefore Odissi has been aptly described as "Sculpture in Motion."

Having established herself as a Kathak Dancer, Yogini went on to include Odissi in her dance repertoire. She commenced her training with Shri Natbar Maharana in Mumbai and further received guidance from the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra - considered as one of the principal architects of present day Odissi.

Yogini has presented Odissi at prestigious Festivals like the Ellora Festival, Parangat Mahotsav and any more. Besides these solo expositions, she has also danced in collaboration with leading dancers of other styles. Recently Yogini has choregraphed items that bring together both Kathak & Odissi, performed by the troupe of Kalanidhi.

Today, Yogini is respected as a solo artist who maintains the individuality of both the Kathak and Odissi dance styles. This makes her achievement unique in India's classical dance arena.
