Kathak, the dance style from north India has the charm and subtlety associated with miniature paintings. Nurtured in the holy precincts of the Hindu temples Kathak was further enhanced with Persian influence during the Mogul reign in India. Over the centuries, it has attained refinement and enriched itself by the establishment of distinct styles and gharanas.
Yogini has had the unique privilege of being home schooled by her parents; thus dance had been the focal point of her life from early childhood. At the young age of 8, Yogini was initiated into the Lucknow school of Kathak at Kala Chhaya, Pune. She was also privileged to receive guidance from the legendary Maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj.
Owing to this early start, her first professional tour was at the age of 19, when she toured 7 cities in the state of Maharashtra. Over time, she has established herself as a sincere and serious performer of the art and has been invited to perform at many prestigious festivals like the Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav and Kathak Kendra Festivals to name a few.
Besides her solo performances, Yogini has had several creative collaborations with other artistes and also performs original choreographed pieces with the troupe of Kalanidhi . |
